ChatGPT may make it easier to find all those files you uploaded during your chats

TL;DR

  • Several UI changes are in the works for the ChatGPT app.
  • There’s a new custom share sheet and file picker interface.
  • We may also get an Uploaded files option and options for editing an attached photo.

If you frequently use ChatGPT, you may notice a few changes in the near future. OpenAI is currently working on several UI updates that could eventually hit the app. Here’s what we’ve discovered in our APK teardown of the ChatGPT app.

Currently, when you tap on the share icon below a ChatGPT response, it will open the system share sheet (see screenshot one). While digging through app version 1.2026.090, we discovered a new custom share sheet. This share sheet is part of the ChatGPT app and will be the first thing you see after tapping the share icon.

In the top row, there’s a selection of specific apps where you can share the link directly. If you have the apps installed, you should see the following:

  • Google/Samsung Messages
  • Gmail/Yahoo/Outlook
  • Signal
  • Snapchat
  • Instagram/Instagram Lite
  • Facebook/Facebook Lite
  • WhatsApp
  • KakaoTalk
  • Line
  • Telegram

These apps are hardcoded in the ChatGPT app.

On the bottom row, there are two options: Copy link and Share. Tapping on the Share option will open up the system share sheet. This gives you the freedom to choose other apps not listed in the custom share sheet.

The next change involves photo attachments. When you attach a photo to the input box, there will be three options: Clean up image, Remove the background, and Draw and annotate. The ability to annotate is already available; you just have to tap on the image. However, the other two options don’t really do anything yet. If you tap on these options, the text “Remove the background” or “Draw and annotate” will automatically get added to the input box for you to send to ChatGPT.

For those of you who upload a lot of files to ChatGPT, this next change should prove to be pretty handy. OpenAI is working on an Uploaded files option. When you tap on this option, you’ll be taken to a new window titled “Files in this chat.” This page will contain all the files you’ve previously uploaded.

The final change we spotted during our teardown introduces a new file picker. Currently, if you tap on the Files option in the attachment menu, you’ll be taken to the system file picker. In a future update, tapping on Files could take you to the file picker seen in screenshot three. This screen will show some of the files you recently uploaded to ChatGPT. It’s unclear how many files will appear on this page, but we saw around 30 files in the list.

You’ll also notice that there’s an Upload files option at the top of this page. Tapping on that option will take you to the usual system file picker.

⚠️ An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.
