iOS 26.4.1 fixes iPhone bug that stopped iCloud data from syncing, including Apple Passwords

iOS 26.4.1 is available today. While the official release notes were vague, a thread on the developer forums indicates it actually fixes a significant bug related to iCloud data syncing.

Developers had noticed that iPhones running 26.4 would stop receiving iCloud change notifications, which impacted cloud data sync for apps that use CloudKit framework, including Apple’s own Passwords app. Apple has now addressed this regression with the just-released iOS 26.4.1 version.

The iCloud issue had gone somewhat under-the-radar, although it was affecting many third-party apps that relied on the CloudKit framework, like Drafts.

The issue meant that changes made by a user on one device would not automatically be delivered to iPhone and iPad clients. Affected developers could do nothing but submit bug reports to Apple and wait for the company to push the operating system fix, which has now happened.

It wasn’t just third-party apps, either. The bug also impacted some Apple services that relied on CloudKit infrastructure, like the shared passwords feature in the Apple Passwords app.

So, if you’ve been noticing data syncing problems with your iPhone apps lately, and your device is running iOS 26.4.0, try updating to iOS 26.4.1. The bug exists on iPadOS 26.4.0 as well, but macOS Tahoe 26.4 was not afflicted by the same issue.

You can update your phone now by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update and installing 26.4.1. If you are in the beta program, the issue has already been fixed in the latest release of iOS 26.5.
