Astronaut’s astounding iPhone 17 Pro Max video shows ‘Earthset’ from space

NASA’s Reid Wiseman, commander of the recent Artemis II mission around the Moon, has posted a phenomenal video captured on iPhone 17 Pro Max that shows ‘Earthset’—the Earth setting behind the Moon.

New video shows Earth setting behind the Moon, as captured at 8x on iPhone 17 Pro Max

We’ve seen our fair share of remarkable images and videos from NASA’s Artemis II mission around the Moon. Some of those were even captured on iPhone.

But Reid Wiseman, astronaut and commander for the Artemis II mission, just posted a new video that might take the crown for the most impressive yet.

It was shot on iPhone 17 Pro Max with 8x zoom and shows the Earth setting behind the Moon.

Here’s the video from Reid Wiseman on X:

From Wiseman’s post:

I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.

NASA’s team of astronauts has already given Apple plenty of Artemis II material for future ‘Shot on iPhone’ campaigns, but this one is pretty astounding in its own right.
