New base iPhone coming soon, new leak reveals key specs

The iPhone 17e is coming soon, representing an update to Apple’s most affordable iPhone model. A new rumor today offers a closer look at the device, detailing all of the specs and design changes on the way.

iPhone 17e specs and features

The rumor comes from Jon Prosser, who is currently being sued by Apple over misappropriation of trade secrets.

In a video posted on YouTube today, Prosser outlines what he expects from the iPhone 17e:

  1. A refreshed design that replaces the notch with a Dynamic Island. Prosser, however, says he’s “not 100%” in this aspect of the design.
  2. 60Hz display
  3. C1X modem
  4. 4,000mAh battery, matching the iPhone 16e
  5. An upgraded 18MP front-facing camera with Center Stage support, matching the iPhone 17 lineup. For comparison, the iPhone 16e features a 12MP selfie camera.
  6. Same 48MP rear camera as the iPhone 16e, but with better lowlight performance
  7. Black and white color options, but Apple has also tested a lavender option that may or may not have made the cut. The iPhone 16e is only available in black and white.
  8. Powered by a binned version of the A19 chip, so it might not be as powerful as the A19 chip in the iPhone 17.
  9. 8GB of RAM
  10. MagSafe charging support
  11. Starting at $599 for 256GB of storage. The iPhone 16e starts at $599 for 128GB of storage.

Many of these specs corroborate previous reporting about the iPhone 17e from sources including Ming-Chi Kuo, Jeff Pu, and Mark Gurman. If all of this pans out, the iPhone 17e represents a small but needed improvement over its predecessor. Most notably, I’m relieved that Apple is adding MagSafe to the iPhone 17e. I think that was the dumbest compromise of the iPhone 16e by a huge margin.

The iPhone 17e could be announced as soon as next week. What do you think of the device as rumored today? Let us know down in the comments.
